Highly skilled professional: 5 years
Dependent Spouse and children of highly skilled foreign professional (Note): 5 years, 3 years or 1year
Highly skilled foreign professional’s spouse who intend to work in Japan: 5 years, 3 years or 1 year
Parents of highly skilled foreign professional or his/her spouses who intend to take care of a grandchild/grandchildren (a child/children of highly skilled foreign professional) under the age of seven or take care of a pregnant highly skilled foreign professional or their spouse: 1 year or 6 months
House servants of highly skilled foreign professional: 1 year
 (Note) “Highly skilled foreign professional” means the person who has been admitted into Japan on or before March 31, 2015 with a status of residence of “designated activities (highly skilled foreign professionals)”. The person with outstanding abilities and credentials who enter Japan on or after April 1, 2015 will be granted the status of residence as “Highly skilled professional”. A spouse or child of the Highly skilled professional can apply for a General visa as dependent. A spouse who intends to work in Japan, parents or house servants of the Highly skilled professional can apply for a Designated activities visa.

Passport
One visa application form (nationals of Russia, CIS countries or Georgia need to submit two visa application forms)
One photograph (nationals of Russia or CIS countries or Georgia need to submit two photographs)
Certificate of Eligibility (Note) - original and a copy
 Chinese nationals must also submit the following documents:

Copy of the Chinese Family Register
Temporary Residence Permit or Residence Certificate (If the applicant does not have a family register within the region under the jurisdiction of the Embassy or Consulates where the application documents are submitted.)
 (Note) A Certificate of Eligibility is issued by a regional immigration bureau under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice as evidence that the foreign national meets the conditions for landing in Japan.

 Foreign nationals who want to obtain the visa for highly skilled professionals have to get a Certificate of Eligibility with the notation of total points and type of activities as a highly skilled professional from a regional immigration bureau in Japan. Without the Certificate of Eligibility, the visa for highly skilled professionals cannot be applied.

 Members of family and house servants of highly skilled foreign professional also need the Certificate of Eligibility in order to apply for the visa. (Application for the Certificate of Eligibility by a proxy in Japan is allowed.
